Erik Black on Sunkist Graphics’ Role in Casino Gaming
Erik Black has worn just about every hat at Sunkist Graphics, starting as a teenager in the print shop and eventually becoming President. Under his leadership, the company has remained at the forefront of the casino signage and slot glass industry for over 40 years.
From innovative printing techniques to the development of the widely used Slot Suits product, Sunkist has not only survived but has thrived in the ever-evolving world of casino gaming.
You’ve been involved with Sunkist Graphics almost your entire life. What keeps you excited about this work after all these years?
There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing your work on a casino floor. Whether it’s signage, glass, or Slot Suits, we take pride in helping casinos transform their environment. The design challenges are always changing, especially with evolving game cabinet styles and tech. And after 40 years in the business, we still find new ways to innovate.
Let’s talk about Slot Suits. This product really took off over the last decade. What makes it so valuable to casino operators?
Slot Suits are all about efficiency and design impact. We started with a large-scale install at the Palms in 2008, and it’s grown from there. It allows casinos to change the look of machines, including colors, textures, and branding, without pulling anything off the floor. We’ve worked on more than 64,000 machines nationwide. It’s fast, cost-effective, and helps unify a casino’s look in a way that guests notice.
You’ve managed to maintain long-standing relationships with major companies like IGT, Light & Wonder, and others. How important are those partnerships to Sunkist’s continued success?
They’re huge. These partnerships enable us to collaborate directly with manufacturers on new cabinet designs, while also supporting legacy games that continue to enjoy strong player demand. While manufacturers focus on the next generation of cabinets, we help casinos extend the life and performance of proven games by upgrading the look—new reel strips, refreshed glass, and LED panel kits. That way, even older games can look and feel new.
Tell us about a recent project that shows what Sunkist is capable of today.
We recently worked with Main Street Station in Downtown Las Vegas on a full-floor refresh. The project involved everything from custom Slot Suits to updated cabinet graphics and branded signage. Because we’re based in Las Vegas, we were able to collaborate closely on-site and provide rapid turnaround. That kind of hands-on service — being in the room, seeing the floor, solving problems in real time — is a big reason our clients keep coming back.
After 40+ years in business, what’s next for Sunkist Graphics?
We’re investing in new tech, expanding our capabilities, and continuing to grow partnerships. But more than anything, we’re committed to listening to our clients and helping them find solutions that fit their needs. Whether it’s a floor-wide revamp or a single set of reel strips, we approach every job with the same level of care. The industry keeps evolving. And so do we.
